FIBRULINE ™, chicory root fiber or chicory inulin, is a soluble dietary fiber obtained from chicory roots through a gentle water extraction process. It is a natural food ingredient, available in liquid or powder form. The chicory root fiber FIBRULINE ™ represents carbohydrates stored in the chicory root, like the sugar stored in the beet or potato starch. But, what is inulin? Inulin belongs to the fructan family. It is an indigestible oligosaccharide made from two to 60 units of fructose joined by β2-1 bonds, most terminated by one unit of glucose. It is the ß2-1 bonds that prevent its absorption by the small intestine, making it a fiber. Oligofructose or fructooligosaccharide (FOS) is a selection of short chains of inulin, or chicory root fiber .
