Pleiotanicals® Holy Basil OSP (R10110) is a proprietary extract of Ocimum sanctum (a plant used in Ayurvedic medicine) for pollution protection and aging prevention in the skin. Holy Basil OSP contains key active molecules, including polyphenols and pentacyclic triterpenoids, that protect against environmental pollution with anti-aging benefits. Holy Basil OSP is ideal for anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, de-stressing, and pollution/UV protection regimens, as well as soothing, calming products for sensitive skin.   Holy Basil OSP reduces a suite of inflammatory mediators in the skin typically induced by exposure to airborne particular matter (PM2.5). Holy Basil OSP protects the extracellular matrix (ECM, the structural foundation of the skin) against damaging oxidative, proteolytic, and inflammatory stress while also modulating collagen and other genes fundamental for ECM structure and integrity.

Compatibility and Formulation
Holy Basil OSP is compatible with most conventional ingredients used in skincare products. It is miscible in aqueous and glycolic systems and tolerates a pH range of 3-7. Best if added in last step of the formulation process when temperature is below 50°C. If needed, it can be added to the formula during its cooling phase at temperatures up to 75°C. Mix well before use.

Holy Basil OSP Inhibition of DPM 2.5-Induced IL-6

Holy Basil OSP significantly reduces the levels of IL-6, a pro-inflammatory cytokine that is elevated in keratinocytes upon air pollution exposure (DPM2.5).

Safety
Human Repeat Insult Patch Testing (HRIPT) under semi-occlusive conditions indicated that Holy Basil OSP is not a primary skin irritant or a primary skin sensitizer when tested neat. EpiOcular testing predicted that Holy Basil OSP would be a Minimal ocular irritant at recommended use levels.
