Flax oils do not typically provide lignans since lignans are associated with the hull of the flaxseed not the oil fraction. Flax hulls are the best and highest source of plant lignans. Flax hull lignan polyphenols are the principal source of phytoestrogens in the diets of people who do not typically consume soy foods. Flax hull lignans are secoisolariciresinol (SDG), matairesinol, pinoresinol, and laricresinol. Lignan bioavailability is improved by crushing the flaxseed during oil pressing. HiOmega® flaxoil softgels are enhanced with flax lignans.
