Technical Details & Test Data
- Film Properties and Processing
Lioptal 541 is a special-purpose binder for air- and stove-drying
primers with very short drying times and excellent overspray tolerance. Through combination
with other short-oil or medium-oil drying alkyd resin, epoxy esters and urea or melamine resins
a wide range of possibilities are obtained not only in the primer sector but also for fast-drying
industrial coatings.
For prime coats and anti-corrosive primers the type and amount of pigments are of vital
importance. Besides zinc phosphate and red iron oxide particularly flaked fillers, such as talc,
have given good results.
Possible dryers are primarily cobalt-lead-manganese or cobalt-barium-zinc mixtures. Relative to
100% alkyd resin we recommend the following amounts depending on the intended use: 0.03-
0.05 % cobalt, 0.30-0.50 % lead- and 0.03-0.04 % manganese metal.
