Carus Group

About Us

"In 1915, two years before the U.S. entered World War I, the price of European imports began to soar and the U.S. experienced a shortage of potassium permanganate. Twenty-five-year-old Edward Hegeler Carus, a mathematics professor, returned home to LaSalle, Illinois to find a solution. He created a makeshift laboratory in an old barn behind the family home, the Hegeler Carus Mansion. He began developing a process to manufacture potassium permanganate. The Carus story is one of innovation. We have enjoyed over a century of growth and success in Illinois’ Starved Rock Country, and we attribute this longevity to continued research and development, with an emphasis on technical support and customer service. We continue to evolve to meet the growing needs of our customer and our world. Today, we manufacture a range of products for the municipal and industrial markets, and the majority of Carus products are used in environmental applications."
