- Pear
The pear is the fruit of the pear tree, genus Pyrus, family Rosaceae, one of the most important fruits of temperate regions. Originates in Asia, probably in China, having been introduced into Europe by the Romans and, later, throughout the world, by the Europeans, pear has been valued for its medicinal properties since a few thousand years. Archeological remains demonstrate that it was already cultivated since 3,000 years BC. It has reasonable amounts of vitamins B1, B2 and Niacin or B3 which regulate the nervous system, prevent hair loss and heal some skin problems. It also contains vitamin A and minerals including potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, silicon and iron and components such as lutein and zeaxanthin, which act as antioxidants reducing the effects of aging skin such as wrinkles and age spots. Pear also has tannins such as leucoanthocyanins and polyphenols such as gallic, ellagic and chlorogenic acid. The pear is one of nature’s rare copper sources. This powerful fruit can also reduce hair loss and various other conditions associated with the aging process. Regular consumption offers a lot of benefits to the skin. Pear juice is used as an ingredient in masks to revitalize dry and aged skin.
