Polyimide /PI Glide
Applications:
Wire & Cable, Medical, Jacketing & Insulation
Product Families:
Parts, Shapes & Films
Chemical Family:
Polyimides (PI), Imides
Polymer Name:
Polyimide (PI)
End Uses:
Cable Jacketing, Electrical/Electronic Applications
Polyimide (PI) are a class of high performing polymers recognized for their outstanding mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties. Polyimides typically exhibit consistent properties through high and low temperatures and possess very good dielectric traits. These thermally stable polymers are biocompatible for use within the body and are sterilizable by several methods. Polyimides are also very resistant to abrasion and have very good wear characteristics. Polyimide can be applied as a coating for over-the-wire (OTW; PI insulated wire) applications for both medical and non-medical uses. Polyimide provides a low friction surface for ease of pushability (deployment) of PI insulated lead wires and can be applied in extremely thin coatings. PI Glide™, a PI / PTFE composite, is an alternative for applications that require a more lubricious surface but do not require the performance of pure PTFE. PI and PI Glide™ coated wire are also available in a layered or composite construction allowing further customization of properties.

PI Glide
Applications:
Wire & Cable, Medical, Jacketing & Insulation
Product Families:
Parts, Shapes & Films
Chemical Family:
Polyimides (PI), Fluoropolymers, Imides
Polymer Name:
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), Polyimide (PI)
End Uses:
Cable Jacketing, Electrical/Electronic Applications
Polyimide (PI) is a group of high performing polymers known for their exceptional chemical, thermal, and mechanical performance properties. These materials demonstrate exceptional thermal stability in high and low temperatures and are extremely flame resistant. PI Glide™, our PI / PTFE composite, is a high lubricity polyimide blend for applications that require lower surface friction yet do not require the performance of pure PTFE. PI Glide™ maintains broad chemical resistance and good dielectric properties in addition to its reduced coefficient of friction. PI Glide™ is available in tubing and as a coating for over-the-wire (OTW, insulated wire) applications. For insulated wire, PI Glide™ provides a low-friction wire for easier deployment or insertion into tubing. With PI Glide™ tubing, inside diameters offer low resistance to inserted devices or tools (pushability) while the outside remains bondable without etching. PI Glide™ can also be produced in a layered composite construction with our conventional polyimide or with PI Glide™ alone. Composite layering polyimide and PI Glide™ allows users to further tailor polyimide tubing or coating properties.

Zeus Sub-Lite-Wall® PTFE heat shrink tubing is our ultra-thin walled extrusion family with wall thicknesses 0.005" (0.127 mm) and below. This specialty heat shrink is engineered for applications that not only require thin walls but also a shrink-to-fit encapsulation protection. For this speciality heat shrink, we can even maintain wall thicknesses extending below 0.001" (0.025 mm) with tolerances of ± 0.0005" (0.0127 mm). Our capabilities allow us to meet your most critical dimensional needs. PTFE has an extremely low coefficient of friction making it especially desirable when needing to push covered components such as guidewires through tight fitting or occluded vessels. For medical applications, PTFE products are sterilizable by several options and are also biocompatible. PTFE’s high working temperature also makes it a good option for covering sensors which may become hot during normal use. This micro-dimensional heat shrink fills a critical need for our customers who are demanding ever-thinner walls for more specialized applications. This superthin- walled heat shrink is highly customizable. Contact your Zeus representative to find out how we can tailor PTFE Sub-Lite-Wall® heat shrink for you.
PEEK
Applications:
Parts & Components, Wire & Cable, Medical
Product Families:
Parts, Shapes & Films
Chemical Family:
Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK)
Polymer Name:
Polyetheretherketone (PEEK)
End Uses:
Tubing, Cable Jacketing, Medical Devices
PEEK, a linear semi-crystalline aromatic polymer, is considered the highest performing thermoplastic material due to its ability to withstand extreme temperatures, high pressure, and caustic fluids. Now Zeus has taken PEEK to an entirely new level of performance with the introduction of PEEKshrink™ – PEEK heat-shrinkable tubing.
Lay Flat Tubing
Applications:
Wire & Cable, Medical, Jacketing & Insulation
Product Families:
Parts, Shapes & Films
Chemical Family:
Fluoropolymers, Polyethylenes, Polyolefins
Polymer Name:
Polyetheretherketone (PEEK), Polyethylene (unspecified), Perfluoroethylene Propylene Copolymer (FEP)
End Uses:
Tubing, Protective Coverings, Electrical Insulation
Lay-Flat™ tubing can be extruded from multiple polymers including FEP, PE, PEEK, as well as others upon request. Lay-Flat™ tubing allows thin walled tubing to be shipped in long continuous lengths on spools without kinking and be processed in downstream manufacturing more easily. Lay-Flat™ tubing's compact form simplifies shipping and can be used in various applications that require an added layer of protection. For example the energy industry utilizes PEEK Lay-Flat™ tubing that is further cut and formed as slot liners and phase insulation for advanced motor insulation. The PEEK Lay-Flat™ tubing is rated at 260 °C. PEEK Lay-Flat™ is chemicaly resistant and can replace traditional Nomex® materials for higher performance motor applications.
