- Product Background
ICOF Europe, a member of Musim Mas Group, serves vegetable refined Glycerin of various grades and feed-stocks backed by our Asian oleochemical production facilities as well as our European refinery Dutch Glycerin Refinery B.V. (DGR) located within Delfzijl Chemical Park providing easy logistical access to major European, Middle East, African and American end markets via road, rail, barge and sea. The material can be packed in drums or IBC as per request.
- General Information
Glycerol or Glycerin (1,2,3-propanetriol) is a colorless, odorless, sweet syrupy trihydroxy alcohol. Glycerol is present in the form of its esters (glycerides) in all vegetable fats and oils. It is obtained commercially as a byproduct when fats and oils are hydrolyzed to yield fatty acids or their metal salts (soaps) as well as from transesterification. The crude glycerin is refined to pure quality through distillation. Glycerol is very hygroscopic (absorbs water) and miscible with water in any ratio.
- Supply Chain Solutions for all Industries
Pharma: For improving smoothness, providing lubrication and because of its humectant characteristics, Refined Glycerin is used as an excipient in pharmaceutical production and preparations. It is found in allergen immunotherapies, cough syrups, tinctures, elixirs & expectorants. It serves as a tablet holding agent and is key ingredient in soft gelatin capsules.
Personal Care & Home Care: Refined Glycerin is used as a base ingredient in personal care preparations. It provides moisturizing properties and improves skin permeability. It is a gentle ingredient for anti-aging and anti-irritant cosmetics, found in skin & hair care applications, shaving cream, soaps & water-based lubricants.
Food: Glycerin is recognized by regulation as food additive E422. It serves as a humectant/wetting agent, solvent, sweetener or sugar substitute (approx. 60 % as sweet as sucrose), thickening agent or filler in food as well as beverage applications.
Feed and Petfood: Glycerin both crude as well as refined qualities are used as a source of energy for animal feed or as a supplement to compound feeds throughout all species. In petfood preparations it mainly serves as sweet tasting wetting agent.
Technical: Glycerin is used as a reaction starter in different kinds of technical applications. It can also be used as depressor of the freezing point for solvents or act as de-icing agent on airfields and in the automotive industry.
- Operating Responsibility & Sustainability
We, as Musim Mas are committed to sustainability and recognize that sustainability is not a business after-thought; sustainability is how we conduct our business. We were the first palm oil corporation from Indonesia to join the RSPO in 2004 when the concept of a multi-stakeholder roundtable was still new to the industry. We were also the first major palm oil group to install methane capture facilities for all our mills. Beyond the industry standard, we have stringent sustainability commitments, which extend across our supply chain:
- Bring benefits to the community
- No deforestation of High Conservation Value (HCV) areas and High Carbon Stock (HCS) forests
- No development of peatland regardless of depth
- Fully comply with local, national and international laws
- Establish traceable supply chain
