Technical Details & Test Data
- Flame and Smoke Retardants
- Flame retardants are used in polymers to impart a resistance to combustion and to prevent the development of flame and toxic gas, Applications where polymers are used in the presence of high numbers of people (e.g. mass transport and buildings) have approval standards that demand the atmost performance from flame retardant additives. Particular attention is applied to the reduction of smoke in such applications. Flamtard products developed by William Blythe act on these two areas of performance and are used in polymer systems ranging from PVC to High Temperature Polyamides.
- The physical and mechanical properties of polymer compounds are carefully attuned to their final application. Solid polymer additives, like flame retardants, must be compatible with the polymer and must not impair key performance properties, nor adversely affect processing on high volume production lines, Flamtard products are successfully used in polyethylene, PVC, unsaturated polyesters, polyamides and PBT.
- Protection from the Hazards of fire and Smoke
- All Flamtard products are classified as non-hazardous, are environmentally benign and have a full portfolio of Supporting toxicological data. Flamtard products are registered for use world-wide; including Europe [REACH], USA [TSCA] and Japan [ENCS).
- The Flamtard range has been developed and manufactured in-house Using optimum process cantrol for product consistency and offering excellent calour stability. Products within the range are stable and compatible with most polymer systems (e.g. PVC and Polyamide] with no adverse effect on polymer performance properties [e.g. Mechanical].
- Our commitment to excellence and continuous improvament ensures that all Flamtard products are of a high purity with tightly controtled particle size, to deliver consistently superior performance.
- The Flamtard range has dual phase activity: inhibiting flame by the gas phase mechanism and suppressing smoke by a condensed phase mechanism (see diagram below).
- In selected applications, Flamtard offers multi-functional performance to modify rheology, reduce corrosivity and benefit polymer properties.
- Multiple product variants and forms are available within the Flamtard range.
