"The year was 1945 and Earl Smittcamp returned from the South Pacific, where he fought in WWII as a U.S. Marine. With the war ended and enthusiasm rising in the country, he and his wife, Muriel, bought a 200-acre farm the following year from her father.

Located in California’s fertile San Joaquin Valley, the land boasted 40 acres of peaches. With an initial focus on peaches, Earl started a fresh fruit-packing operation. The farm would eventually become Wawona Ranch and grow into a fully integrated agricultural operation — led by Earl and his sons Bob and Bill – that included fruit farming, packing, frozen-foods production and food processing."

Whether conventional or organic, Wawona grows and processes both Freestone and Clingstone varieties of peaches and offers year-round availability – in many different styles and packs to meet the product needs of customers. Wawona Frozen Foods Pears has a long tradition of processing quality frozen fruit and this extends across the entire product line. In addition to the flagship peaches, pears have grown in popularity as a healthy, delicious snack as well as an ingredient in salads, yogurt, baked goods, etc. Wawona sources pears from the great Northwest, where 90% of U.S. pears are grown. Wawona’s growers harvest at the perfect time, when the pears are mature but not completely ripe, as pears ripen best off the tree. By the time the pears arrive at Wawona’s processing facilities, the pears are at their freshest level, creating a quality frozen product.
