- WACKER® AF 21 is particularly suitable as an active substance in non yellowing softener formulations for the impregnation of fibers and textiles.
- WACKER® AF 21 imparts a very soft and drapable handle to woven and knitted fabrics.
- WACKER® AF 21 improves the wash-and-wear properties and the crease recovery angle, sewability and reduces abrasion loss. The effects are fast to washing and dry cleaning.
- WACKER® AF 21 has no effect on the degree of white in a softener formulation when usual application conditions are adhered to. As a rule no adverse effect on the shade or color fastness properties of colored goods is observed.
Processing- WACKER® AF 21 can be applied from solution, or emulsion. Suitable solvents are aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydro-carbons, esters, higher alcohols, and ke-tones. Most textile processes are water based. Hence WACKER® AF 21 is mainly applied from emulsion.
- WACKER® AF 21 is suitable for the formulation of micro emulsions and macro emulsions. Emulsions made with WACKER® AF 21 are diluted to the optimum concentration for the specific fabric. Application can be done by padding or exhaustion.
- WACKER® AF 21 can be utilized as the active substance in softener emulsions or in combination with other components, e.g. paraffin waxes, organic softeners, etc. Compatibility of the components has to be checked in each individual case.
Typical Formulation- 50.0 parts demineralized water
- 5.0 parts tridecyl alcohol 6EO
- 3.0 parts tridecyl alcohol 9EO
- 4.0 parts diethylene glycol monobutylether
- 20.0 parts WACKER® AF 21
- 17.9 parts demineralized water
- 0.1 parts conservation agents
The emulsifyer is dissolved in the demineralized water, then gradually add WACKER® AF 21 and mix until the product is clear and homogenous. Finally, the second amount of water and conservation agent are added

- WACKER® AF 21 yields an extremely soft hand with little to no shade change most notably yellowing due to normal textile processes.
- WACKER® AF 21 gives a less hydrophobizing effect on natural fibers than standard amino softeners.
- WACKER® AF 21 will also give some wrinkle recovery and improved fabric elasticity.
