grotan® OX

grotan® OX is an innovative biocide that offers outstanding performance at low doses for greater cost-efficiency. Suitable for water-mixed metalworking fluids, metalworking fluid concentrates, and other technical emulsions, it provides good anti-corrosion properties. Effective against bacteria, yeasts, and mold, it features a broad, balanced spectrum, including sulfate-reducing bacteria, with good immediate effects. grotan® OX contains no nitrate, nitrosing agents, or organically bound chlorine, ensuring no impact on the AOX value. It is used in preserving products during storage, liquid-cooling and processing systems, slimicides, and working or cutting fluid preservatives.

Dosage Information

Fields of Application:

The optimum use level should be evaluated by means of a repeated challenge test (e.g. at Vink Technical support department).

Fields of Application (Preservative for technical products) Recommended Dosage
Water miscible metalworking fluids 1.0 - 1.5 g/kg (0.10 - 0.15 %)
Technical emulsions 1.0 - 1.5 g/kg (0.10 - 0.15 %)
Metalworking fluids concentrates 20 - 40 g/kg (2.0 - 4.0 %)

Indications for Use

General Information:

  • grotan® OX is suitable for use in water-mixed metalworking fluids, metalworking fluid concentrates and other technical emulsions.
  • grotan® OX is suitable to protect drilling fluids and other water based systems in oil and gas production systems against microbial contamination and corrosion. The dosing should be applied by using dosing pumps either in the water or in the oil phase.

Solubility(ies): Fully soluble in most polar organic solvents.

Additional Advice:

  • In order to avoid microbial growth and the resultant consumption of preservative from the outset, it is advisable to add grotan® OX to the fresh mix of metalworking fluid.
  • More can be added at weekly to fortnightly intervals depending on the diskharge of the metalworking fluid.
  • When adding grotan® OX , it should be added at a point with good turbulence in order to ensure good distribution in the system.
  • Before refilling the plant, system cleaning is recommended (e.g. with grotanol®).
  • The removal of larger biofilms should be done with priority mechanically or by pigging or in a combination of biocidal treatment and suitable cleaning with a system cleaner such as grotanol® NOS.

Compatibility Information
Compatibility Compatible To be avoided
Concentrate Stainless steel, Steel, Polypropylene, Polyethylene,
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), Polyamide (PA 11)
Sealants and Plastics other than mentioned, PVC
(hard)
Aqueous dilution (0.15 %) No significant difference to water Water incompatible materials
Further Information On contact with non-ferrous metal or non-ferrous metal containing alloys, diskolorations of the surface wetted with grotan® OX can occur.if the coolants do not contain a non-ferrous corrosion inhibitor. When used in a system with non-ferrous metal with dosage higher than 50 ppm add a copper inhibitor. From the available test results, it can be concluded that the addition of grotan® OX has virtually no influence on the medium to be preserved.
