- Iron oxides are characterized according to the oxidation state of the metal, as this varies the chemical / physical characteristics of the material change a lot. Of the completely oxidized iron (Fe3+), ferric oxide, forms the hematite mineral characterized by the typical red color. Iron in the second oxidation state (Fe2+), ferrous oxide, forms the unstable black mineral Wüstite. Iron oxides with mixed valence metals (Fe2+ 3+), ferrous-ferric oxide, form the magnetite mineral famous for its magnetic properties.
- The uses of these compounds are vast and depend on the properties of the chosen raw material, they are used for example as inorganic pigments given their remarkable stability. Common uses are also: source of chromophores, oxidants, heavy charges, adsorbents, UV barrier etc.
- Veneta Mineraria produces and markets high quality iron oxide products designed for industrial applications. We have natural iron oxides (hematite, magnetitic, etc.) and synthetic (red, yellow, black etc.).
