DRYLOK® WetLook Clear High Gloss Penetrating Sealer

DRYLOK® WetLook Clear High Gloss Penetrating Sealer is a clear, nonyellowing, water-based acrylic coating formulated for use on interior or exterior masonry surfaces. Provides superior hardness and durability. Protects against efflorescence (white, powdery, salt-like deposits) visible on the masonry. Built in flash rust resistance prevents orange staining of surface when applied to masonry containing natural metals. Excellent chemical resistance to de-icing salts. Compatible with polymeric sand.

Basic Uses

Ideal for horizontal and vertical masonry surfaces such as walkways, concrete driveways, garage floors, basement floors, concrete sidewalks, pavers, bare or painted brick, poured concrete, Chattahoochee stone, stamped concrete and artificial stone, terrazzo, and slate surfaces.

Limitations

DRYLOK® WetLook Clear High Gloss Penetrating Sealer is not for use on wood, metal, granite, marble, over silicone treated surfaces, or on any masonry surface subjected to hydrostatic pressure. Vertical masonry surfaces subjected to hydrostatic pressure should be treated with DRYLOK® Masonry Waterproofer.

Applications & Uses

Surface Preparation

  • Remove all dirt, wax, dust, mildew, and loose or scaling material with a scraper, wire brush, or stiff bristle brush. Masonry surface must be dry and free of dirt, wax, dust, mildew, and loose or scaling material. For proper penetration and adhesion to extremely smooth bare concrete floors, use DRYLOK® ETCH (liquid or powder) or muriatic acid. Rinse thoroughly (pressure wash for best results). Allow to dry thoroughly according to manufacturer’s directions. If using a pressure washer, do not use on a pressure setting above 1750 PSI to avoid damaging the concrete. Remember, concrete acts like a stone sponge. Pressure washing and general cleaning may trap residual moisture in the concrete. To check for trapped moisture, tape a 12”x12” piece of 3 mil plastic or aluminum foil tightly on all four edges to the surface. Remove it after 24 hours. If the floor side of the plastic or foil is damp, allow additional drying and repeat the test.
  • Efflorescence a white, powdery, crystal-like deposit visible on the masonry surface must be removed. DRYLOK® Etch (liquid or powder) or muriatic acid, used according to manufacturer’s directions, are effective efflorescence removal agents. All masonry surfaces are subject to occurrences of efflorescence. Properly prepared concrete should look and feel like medium grit sandpaper. If concrete remains smooth, repeat etching procedure. Test concrete porosity by sprinkling a few drops of water onto the surface in several areas. If the water is readily absorbed, you are ready to paint. If it beads or lays on the surface additional cleaning and etching is needed. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry for 24 hours. NOTE: Rinse etching solutions thoroughly. Etching solution allowed to dry on the masonry surface will prevent proper penetration and curing of the DRYLOK® Wetlook Clear High Gloss Penetrating Sealer. Surface must be thoroughly dry. Do not apply to damp surfaces. For exterior surfaces, do not apply if rain is expected within 48 hours. Wait for a dry, rain-free period New concrete and freshly applied Portland cement based patching compounds must be cured for a minimum of 24 hours prior to application of DRYLOK® Wetlook Clear High Gloss Penetrating Sealer.Patch all holes and cracks with a suitable cement based patching compound. Be sure to smooth the patch evenly. Allow the patched area to dry thoroughly. Previously painted masonry surfaces: In addition to normal surface preparation old glossy surface must have the gloss removed by using sandpaper. Remove all sanding dust with a vacuum or tack cloth.

Application

  • Stir thoroughly. Use only when air and surface temperatures are between 50°-95°F (10°-35°C). Surface must be thoroughly dry. Do not apply in direct sunlight. Do not apply to wet surfaces or if rain or heavy dew is expected within 24 hours before or after application. Apply a thin coat using a 3/8"1/2" nap roller or use a nylon/polyester brush at a spread rate of 1000-2000 sq. ft. per 5 gallon. Spread rate is highly dependent on surface porosity, 1-2 coats are all that is required to achieve a high gloss appearance. On exposed aggregate and on materials where product may puddle or pool, over application will extend drying times and surface may appear milky until fully dry. IMPORTANT: Sealed surfaces and areas adjacent to pools may become slippery when wet. Use caution when walking on surface when moisture is present.
  • OPTIONAL: Up to 2 oz. of DRYLOK® NonSkid Texture Additive may be added to DRYLOK® Wetlook Clear High Gloss Penetrating Sealer to improve traction. For previously painted masonry surfaces DRYLOK® Wetlook Clear High Gloss Penetrating Sealer may be applied over existing paints and coatings. Many previously coated surfaces may only require one coat.
  • Test DRYLOK® Wetlook Clear High Gloss Penetrating Sealer on a small area to determine compatibility prior to completing the entire job

Thinning

Due to variations in porosity, when applied over flagstone, slate, terrazo, dense smooth or light colored concrete, thin with clean, moderately warm water 10%-20% to minimize sheen variations as subsequent top coats are applied. Test on a small area to see final effect.

Maintainence

Horizontal surfaces subject to excessive wear may require periodic touch-ups to high traffic areas.

  • Coverage: 200–400 square feet per gallon
  • Clean-Up: Soap and water Dispose of contaminated absorbent, container, and unused contents in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Dry Time

  • To touch: 1 hour
  • To recoat: 2 hours
  • Light foot traffic: 24 hours
  • Heavy foot traffic: 72–96 hours
  • Clean with a mild, non-abrasive liquid detergent: 30 days
  • Rain free: 24 hours

Note: Maximum cure and dry time will be prolonged when slightly humid and damp, cool conditions prevail. COVERAGE: • 200-400 sq. ft./gal. Note: Actual coverage will vary depending upon application method, surface texture, and porosity.
