The story of the Tampico Spice Company is the story of the American dream. Jesus Martinez was born in California before the time of the 1929 stock market crash. Although his childhood in Los Angeles was marked by the poverty of the Great Depression, he was a firm believer that hard work and perseverance were the keys to success.In 1947 Mr. Martinez scraped together $35 to buy his first inventory of spices, which he immediately repackaged into small cellophane packets. Mr. Martinez then peddled his spices door-to-door to all the corner markets in the Los Angeles, California area. Today Tampico Spice Company is an established and recognized food processor selling herbs and spices across the Western United States. Still family owned and operated, and located in Los Angeles, the third generation of the Martinez family has now joined the team. With his dedication, over time the company grew and grew. A facility was opened, and machinery was purchased. Soon Tampico Spice imported spices, processed their own herbs and spices, and became spice blenders.

Tampico Spice Cinnamon, #1, Ground (90023) is the dried bark of laurel trees in the cinnamomum family. Cinnamon tastes aromatic and sweet and has a fragrant perfume. o to 10 per cent of volatile oil, tannin, mucilage and sugar.

Tampico Spice Aniseed, Whole R/C (90004) is a small gray-brown oval-shaped, and about 3/16' long seed of an herb of the parsley family. It is identified by it's licorice flavor. It gives the characteristic aroma to Anisette and other liqueurs. It resembles the flavor of fennel.

Tampico Spice Caraway, Whole (90012) is the dried fruit of Carum carvi L. It is grayish tan with five light-colored ridges with a sweet, spicy, and slightly minty aroma. It's flavor is pleasant and warm with a bitter aftertaste. Shelf life is up to one year.

Tampico Spice Bay Leaves, Turkish Whole (90010) is from the dried leaves of Laurus nobilis L. (Laurel or sweet bay tree) It is pale-green to yellowish green with a pleasing odor. Sweet with a delicate lemon clove like note in flavor with an aroma that is warm and slightly pungent.

Tampico Spice Cardamon, Decorticated Ground (90014) is from the dried, nearly ripe, decorticated fruit of Elettaria cardamonum L. Maton. A member of the ginger family. It's color is brown with black specks with an aromatic, sweet aroma similar to ginger. It has a warm, slightly pungent flavor. Shelf life up to one year.
