Safety & Health
- Health Effects
STEPAN-MILD PCL-BA is expected to be slightly toxic orally (LD50 > 2000 mg/kg) and moderately irritating to the skin and eyes when tested as sold.
- Workplace Exposure
Occupational exposure can occur primarily through skin contact or via inhalation of vapors and mists. Engineering controls, personal protective equipment, and other workplace safety practices should be used to control these exposures.
Packaging & Availability
- Packaging Type
- Packaging Information
STEPAN-MILD PCL-BA is available in drums, totes and bulk quantities.
Storage & Handling
- Storage Information
- Phase separation may occur if material is exposed to cold temperature and/or is frozen. Mild heat (30°C- 40°C/86°F-104°F) and agitation is recommended to ensure material is homogenous before use. Product may remain hazy after reconstitution, but haze has not been found to impact the product performance.
- Non-Bulk Storage Recommendations: It is recommended that STEPAN-MILD PCL-BA be stored in sealed containers. Store and handle in equipment normally used for detergents. Recommended storage temperature is 60-100°F (15-38°C).
- Bulk Storage Recommendations: Recommended storage temperature is 60-100°F (15-38°C). Viscosity of product will increase significantly as bulk temperature falls below 60°F (15°C). Material of construction of storage tank should be 316 stainless steel (or fiberglass with DION 382 liner). Transfer pumps should be Viking stainless steel (or other similar gear pump) with internal pressure relief capabilities. The tank and pump should be grounded. If material is frozen, mild heat (80-100°F / 27-38°C) and agitation is required to ensure material is homogenous before use. Keep the product between a pH of 4 and 9 or hydrolysis will occur.
- Handling Precautions
Normal safety precautions (e.g., gloves and safety glasses) should be employed when handling STEPAN-MILD PCL-BA. Contact with eyes, nose or prolonged contact with the skin should be avoided. Wash thoroughly after handling STEPAN-MILD PCL-BA. Occupational exposure can occur primarily through skin contact or via inhalation of vapors and mists. Engineering controls, personal protective equipment, and other workplace safety practices should be used to control these exposures.
