This anionic surfactant offers the combination of exceptional alkali solubility with excellent coupling ability for nonionics in liquid formulations. It is used in heavy-duty, alkaline industrial detergent systems, textile wet processing, pulp deresination, de-dusting agents, and corrosion inhibitors.
- Solubility and Coupling
- CEDEPHOS FA-600 phosphate ester, tested at a 5% level, is completely soluble in water, glycol ethers, ethanol, kerosene, xylene, perchloroethylene, vegetable oil and mineral oil.
- CEDEPHOS FA-600 is very soluble in highly alkaline solutions.
Maximum Concentration (%) of Alkali in which 1% CEDEPHOS FA-600 is Soluble
Alkali Temperature 50°C 100°C Sodium Hydroxide 16 13 Tetrapotassium Pyrophosphate (TKPP) 34 33 Sodium Metasilicate, anhydrous 27 23 - CEDEPHOS FA-600 is supplied in the free acid form. To neutralize 100 parts of CEDEPHOS FA-600 as supplied, 17.6 parts of sodium hydroxide or 24.7 parts of potassium hydroxide are required.
- At low concentrations, CEDEPHOS FA-600 will solubilize conventional nonionic surfactants, such as MAKON® 10, in liquid alkaline formulations. The data given in TABLE II compare CEDEPHOS FA-600 to two products widely used in this application.

Regulatory & Compliance
- Certifications & Compliance
- Clearances
All components of CEDEPHOS FA-600 are listed in the following countries: United States (TSCA 68921-24-4), Australia (AICS 68921-24-4), Canada (DSL 68921-24-4), China (IECSC 68921-24-4), and New Zealand (NZIoC 68921-24-4).
Safety & Health
- Toxicity
CEDEPHOS FA-600 surfactant is supplied as the unneutralized partial ester of phosphoric acid. Therefore, it can be expected to produce skin and eye irritation effects similar to that of dilute phosphoric acid pH ~ 2 (slightly toxic orally and is corrosive to eyes and moderately irritating to skin).
Packaging & Availability
Storage & Handling
- Storage & Handling
- Normal safety precautions (i.e., gloves and safety goggles) should be employed when handling CEDEPHOS FA-600. Contact with the eyes and prolonged contact with the skin should be avoided.
- Store CEDEPHOS FA-600 in a well-ventilated area away from extreme heat in the original shipping container. Transfer pump liquid handling ends and all transfer piping should be appropriate materials of construction for handling strong organic acids. CEDEPHOS FA-600 will not separate upon standing, so drum agitation is not required. Recommended storage temperature is 77°F (25°C) for ease of mixing and handling. However, CEDEPHOS FA-600 will remain fluid even at temperatures as low as 32°F (0°C). If frozen, CEDEPHOS FA-600 will thaw to its original state.
