Product Background

Vetiver is characterized by a bushy stem and an extensive root network, which combined can reach a height of nearly 4 meters. The species has two genotypes, one with a seed and the other one sterile, and it is the latter that is planted for essential oil production. After several months in the soil, the vetiver is then unearthed and its roots cut, following which part of this stump is replanted to maintain crop levels. The roots are then sorted and dried before being distilled for essential oil production. Today the crop is extensively grown in Haiti, Indonesia and other countries (Madagascar, India) and is widely used to stabilize soil and slow erosion, particularly on uneven terrain.
