Acetic acid is used as a feedstock in the production of a range of other important chemicals. The largest single use is in the manufacture of vinyl acetate, followed by acetic anhydride and ester production. Acetic acid is also used to produce a wide range of inorganic salts (e.g. sodium acetate, used as food preservative).
