Soluble in hot concentrated sulfuric acid, almost insoluble in water, ethanol and dilute acid. Barium sulfate has plate-like crystals, complete cleavage with close angle intersections, specific gravity 4.0-4.6 , foaming when exposed to hydrochloric acid cloth, strong chemical inertness, and good stability.
