The main bioactive compounds with antioxidant activity that are found in pomegranates for extracts products are : punicalagins, anthocyanins (delphinidin, cyanidin, and pelargonidin 3-glucosides and 3,5-glucosides), and hydrolysable tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, punicic acid, ellagitannin polyphenolic compounds, ellagic acid and gallic acid.

Pomegranate extracts (PEs) also has a potent antibacterial, antiviral, hypolipidemic, and anti-inflammatory bioactivities due to the polyphenolic compounds content, mainly: punicalagins, gallic acid, and ellagic acid derivatives.
