SalSphere™ AAL is a proprietary sub-micron encapsulation system ranging in 0.1 to 0.3 microns in diameter . The technology comprises a hydrophobic core infused with botanical extracts, collagen-stimulating peptides. The hydrophilic shell is designed to suspend the sphere in formulations.

The collagen-boosting ingredients need to reach the lower layers of the skin in order to be effective; SalSphere™ technology provides a means to transport these ingredients to the deeper layers of skin for enhanced efficacy.

- Botanical Extracts and Peptides
During the natural aging process, degradation of collagen in the dermal layer leaves the skin without support and leads to the formation of wrinkles .
SalSphere™ AAL contains two groups of ingredients (Table 1). The first group consists of functional botanical extracts that work on the surface of the skin to deliver an immediate lifting and tightening effect that is similar to Botox®. The second group is a blend of anti-aging ingredients that work below the surface to shore up deeper wrinkles by boosting collagen synthesis.

SalSphere™ Anti-Aging Lift (AAL) is an effective technology that instantly reduces the appearance of fine lines (Figure 1) and treats wrinkles from within for a longlasting, younger-looking appearance .

Firming Effect
SalSphere™ AAL visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines in as little as 10 minutes and yields a firming sensation that can be perceived long after application . In a consumer perception test, volunteers evaluated the firming intensity of a lotion containing SalSphere™ AAL compared to the free ingredients in a lotion. Firming intensity was measured on scale of 0 to 5, with 5 being the greatest sensation.

The firming and tightening sensation from SalSphere™ AAL provides a sensory and visual cue to consumers, which encourages consumers to continue use of the product while the collagen-boosting peptides take time to take effect on the deeper wrinkles.
Enhanced Peptide Residence
In vivo studies have shown that SalSphere™ technology significantly enhances peptide presence and residence time on skin . Free peptides, in contrast, have limited availability on the skin due to their hydrophilic nature.

Free peptides exhibit limited accumulation (20%), tapering off at 30 minutes, while the encapsulated peptide results in over 60% accumulation. SalSphere™ technology targets peptides to the deeper layers of skin where collagen synthesis occurs.
