- Recommended Applications
In automotive finishes, Tallicin® 1500 helps produce a high gloss effect and helps eliminate bubbles and craters caused by dip tank applications. The product also contributes intercoat adhesion in baking finishes and eliminates surface defects, particularly in high solids applications.
Tallicin® 1500 improves the flow, leveling and brushability of air-dried solvent-based coatings and usually improves the sharpness of gloss paints. The product reduces the viscosity of alkyd varnishes and holds viscosity constant. Tallicin® 1500 can also be used to improve the flow characteristics of nitrocellulose lacquers.
Tallicin® 1500 has an extremely high solvency and a very low evaporation rate. The product provides high spectural gloss and excellent flow properties to both two-component and oil-modified urethane systems. Brush-applied urethane systems will obtain the D.O.I. and look of a spray applied system.
Tallicin® 1500 is also effective as a flow agent for all coatings systems with high molecular weight resin systems. Tallicin® 1500 is silicone-free and fugitive from the film.
- Recommended Use Levels
Generally, a starting point level of 0.5% based on total weight is suggested for Tallicin® 1500. In some systems Tallicin® 1500 is used at a level of 2-3%, based on total weight, to provide good flow, leveling, wet edge and open time. An effective reducing solvent formulation can be prepared with Tallicin® 1500 in combination with solvents used in a particular system.
Add Tallicin® 1500 into either the grind portion of the paint or as a post additive. In some cases, pigment loading can be increased when Tallicin® 1500 is incorporated into the grind.
