Paladin's phenalkamine curing agents are produced by carrying out Mannich reaction of cardanol with formaldehyde and polyamine. These phenalkamine curing agents that are based on renewable biomass present several advantages. This includes fast cure at low temperature, good chemical resistance, moisture tolerance, non-blushing properties and good surface appearance. Furthermore, the long hydrophobic side chain on cardanol imparts excellent flexibility, surface tolerance, good pot life, excellent water and sea water resistance. Additionally, these phenalkamine resins with strong hydrogen bonds are able to adhere to poorly prepared surfaces as well as wet surfaces since the side chain inhibits water from interfering between surface and resin.
