Concrete Preparation
Before the coating is applied, the concrete must be:
- Clean – Contaminants removed
- Profiled – Surface etched
- Sound – Cracks repaired
Mechanical methods are preferred for preparing concrete prior to coating application. Shot-blasting, diamond grinding, scarifying, and scabbling are all acceptable methods. The concrete profile should approximate 60-80 grit sandpaper after preparation.
Coverage
When used as a topcoat, estimate coverage at 150-350 square feet per gallon. Always apply in thin coats (400-500 SF/gal.) as with most water based products thick coats can result in trapped water in the film and thick areas will remain white or even foam up. Do not allow puddling. Brush out any puddled material that pools in cracks, divots or low spots. For thicker films, simply apply additional thin coats.
Mixing
The mix ratio of Polyurethane WB Matte is 2 to 1. That is, two parts of A (resin), to one part B (isocyanate). Mix the following with a drill and jiffy mixer. Use low speed, 300 rpm or lower to avoid air entrainment.
- Premix part A for 30 seconds to ensure uniformity.
- If using the three gallon kit, simply pour the part B into the A pail and mix 1-2 minutes or more until uniform, scraping the sides to insure a uniform mix. If using the 15 gal. kit, premix part A for 30 seconds to ensure uniformity, measure out 2 gal. of part A, add to a clean mixing bucket, then add one gallon of part B and mix as stated above.
Application Process
Apply Polyurethane WB Matte at approximately 250-500 square feet per gallon. Pour out the mixed material in a ribbon and spread with a window squeegee evenly over the entire surface. Using a 3/8” nonshedding roller, quickly roll out the floor. Immediately after, cross roll the coating in the opposite direction. Additional coats will increase thickness and durability.
Color Selection
Polyurethane WB is available in clear and the a few select standard colors. Other colors are available at an additional charge.
Cleanup
Polyurethane WB Matte while in a liquid state may be cleaned up with water and degreaser. Otherwise a strong solvent may be required while Polyurethane WB Matte is setting up.
