• Douarnenez is located in Brittany (France), a bay in an intertidal rocky shore, which is highly dynamic due to the exposition to harsh factors, such as wave action, thermal and desiccation stress, UV exposure and nutrient depletion. Therefore, organisms inhabiting this area developed some kind of protection.
• The bacterium producing Hyadisine® marine ingredient was collected in this intertidal bay from a colony of mussels. During high tides, mussels are covered with water and gradually become exposed to desiccation at low tides. The exopolysaccharide secreted by Pseudoalteromonas sp. is induced as a protection due to its highly hygroscopic nature.
