- Product Highlights
Talc in ceramics
- Talc can be used in several applications within the ceramic sector, for example talc is used as filler within technical ceramics, in automotive cordierite ceramics, several tiles and within fireproof ceramics. Further the micro crystalline structure of LITHOS talc offers the possibility to use the talc for electrical ceramic applications.
- Talc is a catalyst in the ceramic industry and has a high temperature resistance. In general, the addition of talc has positive effects to ceramic, for example it increases the mechanical and optical properties of the ceramic material and glazes. Through the addition of talc the properties of the product can be changed and the combustion temperature is reduced. This has a positive effect on the production costs.
Talc in plastics
- The application spectrum for talc in plastics is nearly unlimited.
- Talc can be used among other things in automotive industry, food packaging industry, for white goods, cases for laptops, window pro-files and polypropylene production.
- During the production process and in the application the material act as a functional filler (for example as an anti-caking agent, a pro-cessing aid inert carrier and absorbent, etc.)
- The use of talc improves the specific characteristics of plastics an increases the quality, therefore purity, aspect ratio, particle size dis-tribution and whiteness are the determining factors.
- Effects and benefits
Talc in ceramics
- Increased thermal shock resistance and reduced fractures
- Improved whiteness and acid resistance
- Stabilizing of pyroplastic distortion
- thermal expansion and firing contraction)
- Improvement of density and stability
- Reduction of cracking
- Reduction of firing cycles and processing temperature
- Increased resistance
Talc in plastics
- Through its laminar structure and the high aspect ratio of talc the stiffness increase.
- Talc acts as a lubricant and is partic-ularly gentle to machines
- Increases the scratch resistance
- A pure talc, with a low loss of igni-tion and a high aspect ratio, helps keep plastics parts dimensionally stable.
- Increases resistance to UV radia-tion
- Variation of the flow properties
- Ideal anti-blocking agent
- Extremely fine talc acts as nucleation excipient and increases the heat re-sistance and crystallization tempera-ture of plastics.
