Polymers are electrically non-conductive, and have a strong tendency to accumulate surface electrostatic charges. Undesired or dangerous effects of the static charge build-up are dust attraction, difficult opening of bags, and possibility of explosion. The addition of Antistatic master batches reduces the surface resistance of the end product and avoids the accumulation of static charge. Anti-Static Additives are added to plastics to reduce or eliminate a static build up. Anti-static additives work by lowering resistivity and are capable of neutralizing the surrounding static field.
