Skin aging is characterized by a disruption of Stratum corneum and barrier integrity, a slow down of keratinocyte renewal and a decrease in biomechanical filament synthesis (collagen for example). - Proven Efficacy
- Procollagen I
Collagen is an important skin component, acting on hydration and biomechanical properties.
On skin explant obtained from a healthy patient. Treatment with or without PoLevan S at
different concentrations by topical application. After 48h of incubation, the turnover
rate was determined by ELISA assay.
*p<0.05 vs controlA significant increase in procollagen I was observed. PoLevan S was as effective as TGF-β, a growth factor regulating the architecture and the degradation of extracellular matrix.
- Cellular proliferation
On skin explant obtained from a healthy patient. Treatment with or without PoLevan S at
different concentrations by topical application. After 48h of incubation, the turnover
rate was determined by BrdU assay.PoLevan S acts on cellular proliferation. The alteration due to aging may be less visible.
Polevan S accelerates epidermis proliferation rate thus acting to promote skin rejuvenation, an important feature of skin vitality and firmness.
- Water balance
Taurine plays a major role in osmoregulation and as a membrane stabilizer
On human normal keratinocytes. Cells incubated during 24 hours in absence (control) or in presence of PoLevan S. Quantification in cell lysate using an ELISA assay.
*p<0.05 vs controlPoLevan S significantly increases content in taurine transporter.
Polevan S limits dehydration and preserves membrane integrity.
- Clinical Study
- Evaluation of moisturization (Corneometer® measurements), immediate effect
Double blind test on 18 volunteers (22 to 50 years old). A unique application in the morning on forearms. Comparison of PoLevan S (1.6%) and hyaluronic acid low molecular weight (HA 0.2%).
Polevan S maintains moisturization, similarly to hyaluronic acid.
- Effect on wrinkles
Double blind test on 11 women (40 to 70 years old). Twice daily application during 4 weeks. Comparison of PoLevan S 1.6% to hyaluronic acid (HA) 0.2%.
Wrinkle assessment (0-10 scale) by a dermatologist

HA (0.2%) 4.1 PoLevan S (1.6%) 4.6 Polevan S shows an anti-wrinkle activity similarly to hyaluronic acid.
- Self-assessement
Polevan S has same effects than hyaluronic acid according to the volunteers.
- Effect on skin pH
SLES vs SLES + PoLevan S 1.6% vs PoLevan S 1.6%. Acidic control used to validate the protocol (data not shown). Application on the arm of 14 volunteers. pH was measured at T0, T20 min, T2H and T6h.
