Strawberry - Hydrosoluble extract
Antioxidant - Soothing – Oral careFragaria vesca The strawberry plant is perennial and does generally not exceed 30 cm high. Its green leaves are lighter and fluffy on their underside and shiny on the face exposed to the sun. Above these leaves, whitish flowers appear between May and June. They give rise to seeds surrounded by a fleshy edible envelope of red color. These false fruits, formed by the whole fleshy receptacle of the flower, spread a sweet and delicate odor and are sweet and astringent in the mouth.

- Organic Certified Strawberry
The Mara des Bois strawberry is certified organic. The culture is entirely organic and no treatment is applied. The producer takes care of maintaining hedges and leaving grassy areas on his land to attract biodiversity. The producer has chosen not to cultivate in heated greenhouses nor under hydroponic system (soil-less), to obtain a premium product full of taste and flavor. Even the use of cold greenhouses will be phased out in 2020 to limit the use of plastic and favor production in open fields.

- Traditional and Medicinal Uses
Diuretics, strawberry roots and leaves have long been used against kidney and bladder conditions, in part against kidney stones. Astringent, they are beneficial in gargling against angina. A cure of strawberries in season is extremely beneficial for the body. With great nutritional value, including a high iron content, strawberries are recommended for people with anemia. It has hypotensive (abnormally low blood pressure), decongestant, reconstituting, remineralizing, tonic, stimulating functions of the hepatic, glandular and nervous systems, depurative or even calming properties. In external use, the strawberry is renowned for its beautifying properties.

The Strawberry extract forms a protective extract
Antioxidant
Strawberry is extremely rich in phenolic compounds such as phenolic acids, anthocyanins or flavonoids, and in vitamin C, which are very powerful antioxidant compounds.Antioxidant composition of strawberry extract
All these compounds are capable of directly neutralizing the free radicals, reducing the concentration of peroxide, repairing the oxidized membranes or else reducing the production of the reactive species. These molecules inhibit biological oxidations, which induce cellular and tissue damage, thus accelerating the mechanisms of skin aging. Thus, strawberry has high antioxidant capabilities, which many studies have demonstrated through various tests and methods.
Antioxidant effect of strawberry: decrease in ROS production
Antioxidant effect of strawberry: increase in Nrf2 and detoxyfying enzymes
Strawberry protects the oxidative stress-induced DNA damages.
Strawberry extract protects from DNA damages
- The Strawberry extract helps to fight against free radicals and protects the cellular and membrane structures against damage.
- The Strawberry extract is a protective extract: it helps to fight skin aging.
Soothing
The Strawberry extract has anti-inflammatory properties and can help to soothe and calm inflammations and irritations. Indeed, thanks to its richness in phenolic compounds in particular, strawberry regulates the inflammatory response and inhibits the secretion of pro-inflammatory mediators, TNF-a and IL-6 for example, and increases the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines like IL-10.Soothing effect of strawberries
Particularly, strawberry limits the UV-induced inflammation
- The Strawberry extract helps to reduce inflammation by regulating the inflammatory response.
- The Strawberry extract is a protective extract: it helps to soothe irritated skin.
Moisturizing
Strawberry has a strong moisturizing activity thanks to its richness in sugars, proteins and amino acids, which participate in both ways of moisturizing the skin: active and passive. In fact, the active phenomenon consists in bringing to the skin emollient agents such as humectants (agents that bind water to the surface of the skin) and the components of NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factors), hydrosoluble and hygroscopic substances present in the Stratum corneum. Sugars, proteins, amino acids and organic acids present in strawberry are hygroscopic molecules, which will thus capture the particles of surrounding water and bind them to the surface of the skin. The Strawberry extract acts in the active route of skin hydration. On the other hand, the passive phenomenon involves substances that act as a barrier to TEWL (Trans- Epidermal Water Loss). The proteins and polysaccharides contained in the fruit are natural polymers: they will then create a protective film on the Stratum corneum, limiting the TEWL. They will reduce the loss of water by reinforcing the impermeability of the epidermis. The Strawberry extract acts in this way in the passive way of skin hydration.- The Strawberry extract helps to maintain a good degree of hydration, by connecting the surrounding water molecules. Therefore, it prevents loss of water and dehydration.
- The Strawberry extract is a protective extract: it helps to maintain the hydric homeostasis of the skin.
Oral care
Strawberry is particularly recommended for oral care thanks to its antimicrobial effect on Streptococus mutans and Staphyloccocus aureus (Korkmaz et al., 2019). S. mutans is particularly known to weaken dental enamel with the formation of a biofilm, causing virulence of S. mutans. Dental caries results from the action of Streptococcus mutans which transforms sugar into lactic acid, which attacks the tooth enamel. S. aureus is known to be responsible for infections both on skin and mucous membrane including mouth. In addition, the Strawberry extract is effective in removing the smear layer.
- The Strawberry extract is a protective extract: it is recommended in oral care.
