- Product Background
Propolis – Hydrosoluble extract
Antiseptic - Antioxidant – Hair GrowthPropolis is a complex made by the bee from its secretions and plant propolis that it has harvested. Plant propolis refers to resinous and gummy substances found on plants. The worker carries the translucent and viscous resin in the baskets of its hind legs (in the same way as the pollen). These balls present a color ranging from light yellow to green-brown. This plant resin is put in front of the entrance of the hive as a natural barrier to protect the colony from external aggressions and predators.
Did you Know?
Bees have between them a language of extreme precision, the dance of bees. This dance is performed in the dark by the scout bee returning to the hive to inform others of the distance, direction, quantity and nature of food.
There are two types of dances:
- Dancing in circles: if the food is less than 100 m
- The wriggling dance: if the food is more than 100 m
The nature of the food is indicated by the smell of the bee that has rubbed against it. The amount of food depends on the screaming of the bee: the more it wriggles, the more the quantity is important. The distance between the food source and the hive is transmitted according to the speed at which the bee rotates. The faster the dance, the closer the source is. The direction is transmitted by the inclination of the dance relative to the vertical.

- Traditional and Medicinal Uses
In the hive, the propolis ensures several important roles. Bees use it as a natural shield to protect their hive. It also serves to purify bees or other small dead animals; to not spread germs and diseases. Man has always been inspired by it. Notably, propolis was used as an embalming product in ancient Egypt. Egyptians also used propolis for its anti-bacterial action. It was also part of the traveling pharmacy of Roman soldiers when they left to fight, to promote healing, reduce pain and clean wounds. Today, it is used a lot to soothe sore throats, clean the mouth and free the airways. It can also effectively soothe mouth ulcers. In external application, it is a recognized antiseptic and disinfectant.

Technical Details & Test Data

The Propolis extract forms a reparative active:
Antiseptic
Propolis is best known for its antiseptic properties. It is indeed capable of inhibiting the proliferation of multiple micro-organisms: Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts and fungi. In particular, it acts on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans. Candida albicans is notably responsible for several mouth infections such as oral candidose. The Propolis extract helps to purify the skin.Propolis inhibits bacterial growth: E. coli and Staphylococcus
Propolis inhibits bacterial growth: C. albicans
Propolis inhibits bacterial growth: S. aureus
Therefore, the Propolis extract is able to limit the proliferation of pathogenic microbial strains potentially present on our skin or mucous membrane or that could grow in cosmetic products.
- The Propolis extract protects the skin against pathogens and their harmful effects on cells. It helps to purify Stratum corneum, hair and mouth.
Antioxidant and photo-protective
Propolis is extremely rich in phenolic compounds, which are very powerful antioxidant compounds.Propolis is rich in phenolic compounds, known as antioxidants
These compounds are able to directly neutralize free radicals, reduce the concentration of peroxide, repair oxidized membranes or reduce the production of reactive species. These molecules inhibit biological oxidation, which induces cell and tissue damage, thus accelerating the mechanisms of skin aging. Thus, propolis has high antioxidant capabilities, which many studies have shown through various tests and methods.
In particular, propolis limits the deleterious effects of UVs. Indeed, propolis activates the Nrf2 antioxidant pathway and thus promotes the synthesis of detoxifying enzymes (HO 1 in particular). Thus, the skin is protected.
P1: propolis extract with 3mg/cm2 polyphenols ; P2: propolis extract with 1,5mg/cm2 polyphenols
- The Propolis extract helps to fight against free radicals and protects cells against damages.
- The Propolis extract is a reparative active: it helps to fight against skin aging.
Soothing
In addition, the Propolis extract has anti-inflammatory properties and can help to soothe and calm inflammations and irritations. Indeed, propolis regulates the inflammatory response and limits the number of cells involved in the inflammatory process. It inhibits the secretion of pro-inflammatory mediators, TNF-a and IL-6 for example. Thus, the Propolis extract helps to reduce inflammation by regulating the inflammatory response.
- The Propolis extract is a reparative active: it helps to soothe and calm irritated skin.
Healing
On the other hand, propolis is known for its healing and regenerative properties. Indeed, it decreases the healing time, and facilitates tissue regeneration and granulation. As a result, the Propolis extract contributes to skin repair, regeneration and restructuring of the skin layers.
- The Propolis extract is a reparative and healing agent.
Hair growth promoter
Finally, studies have demonstrated the propolis's ability to stimulate hair growth. It facilitates the proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes in the scalp, which develops the hair follicle and therefore promotes the hair growth. The propolis could reduce the oily appearance of hair, give them shine and promote hair growth.- The Propolis extract is a reparative active: it enables to embellish hair.
