With its low cured color and good transparency SHCP 2719 is used in casting applications where color, or rather lack of color, is important. Trophies, encapsulations and decorative items are its major areas of use. SHCP 2719 may be filled with various types of fillers or colored with various dyes and pigments. Care should be taken in the selection of these additives as some grades can lengthen the gel time quite appreciably. Catalyst levels with SHCP 2719 can be varied between 0.6 and 2.7% with the recommended level being between 0.75 and 1.7%, which gives the best-cured color. Higher levels of catalyst can cause a yellow color in the resin on exotherm, especially if added when the resin temperature is 25ºC or above. Lower temperatures may alleviate this effect, but will certainly slow down the cure rate. Lower catalyst levels will result in under cured resin, which may consequently darken on aging. If encapsulating flowers or insects, then they should be dried thoroughly first. This may be accomplished in a desiccator or by soaking in solvents of gradually increasing dehydrating power. Metal items which may affect the gel time and cure, e.g. brass or bronze pieces, should be given a thin coating of faster resin, e.g. Surfboard Laminating Resin, to seal their surface before encapsulating them in SHCP 2719.
