Applications & Uses

- Application Method
- Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
- Substrate & Ambient Conditions
- The concrete surface must be clean and free of all contaminants and water.
- Do not apply if rain is anticipated within 24 hours of application.
- If moisture is present or if the surface is not clean and free of all contaminants, Dekguard may have white or cloudy spots and delaminate within a short period of application.
- Substrate and the air temperature must be no less than 40°F and not exceed 80°F.
- If applied outside these limits Dekguard may not achieve adequate film formation and may have excessive air entrapment, bubbles, blushing or hazing.
- Note that in direct sunlight, the substrate temperature can exceed 150°F which can cause extreme bubbling issues.
- Apply on cool, overcast days to avoid film formation issues.
- Do not apply if the temperature is expected to achieve 85°F or higher.
- Applications
- Apply using a 3/8” nap roller cover using long even uniform strokes at approximately 250 - 350 square feet per gallon depending on the concrete substrate.
- An airless sprayer containing a 519 tip size may be used as well.
- Do not apply too thick or puddle.
- The sealer may turn cloudy or white and may never form a film.
- Do not apply too thin as the film may flake off or delaminate.
- Allow Dekguard to cure for 24 hours before allowing foot traffic and at least 48 hours for heavy traffic.
- Allow 4 to 6 hours between coats, if more than one coat is applied.
- For uniform coverage and application, two coats are recommended.
- For personal protection use gloves, respirators and protective clothing.
- It is not recommended to thin the product with any solvent.
- Please be aware that this product may be slippery when wet.
- We recommend the addition of non-skid additives to achieve the desired coefficient of friction.
- Do not apply near active pilot lights, sparks, heaters, smoking, electric motors or any other active source of the fire.
- Clean Up
- Use Xylene to clean the containers and tools.
- Dispose the consumables in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
- Coverage
- The first coat of Dekguard is applied 200 to 300 square feet per gallon.
- The second coat is applied at 300 to 400 square feet per gallon.
- Maintenance
- After completing the application of Dekguard, the installer should provide the owner with maintenance instructions.
- If floors become slippery due to animal fats, oil, grease, or soap film, clean and rinse thoroughly.
- Dekguard is easily cleaned with neutral soaps or detergents.
- Routine mechanical scrubbing is recommended for all surfaces having a non-skid texture.
- Waxing is optional.
- Long periods of heavy traffic may cause wear patterns necessitating the application of a finish coat.
