CSL Silicones CSL588 Electronic Grade Silicone Sealant / Adhesive

CSL Silicones CSL588 Electronic Grade Silicone Sealant / Adhesive is one part, moisture cure, room-temperature vulcanizing (RTV), electronic grade 100% silicone sealant that cures to form a tough, permanently flexible rubber. The non-corrosive curing system makes it ideally suited for protecting, sealing and insulating corrosion-sensitive electrical and electronic materials such as copper, brass and silver. CSL588 has excellent dielectric properties, high surface resistivity and repels water to protect sensitive electronic components. CSL588 has superior resistance to weathering including ozone, ultraviolet radiation and airborne chemicals.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be clean and dry, and free of dust, dirt, and grease. It is recommended that bonding surfaces be wiped with an oil-free solvent. Allow surface to dry thoroughly before applying sealant. CSL588 has excellent unprimed adhesion to most substrates.

Application

CSL588 is ready-to-use and requires no mixing or additives. Curing begins as soon as the sealant is exposed to air. At conditions of 25°C (77°F) and 50% relative humidity, a bead of sealant, 3mm, will skin over in 5 - 10 minutes and fully cure in 24 hours, attaining full physical properties in 7 days. Higher humidity accelerates cure. Cure time will also vary with the degree of confinement. Tooling, if necessary, should be done before skin-over takes place.

In confined cure conditions, CSL588 neutral cure sealant may discolor brass, copper, or other sensitive metals, and/or stress craze polycarbonate.

CSL588 should not be applied below grade, to surfaces under continuous water immersion, to substrates that bleed oils, plasticizers or solvents (e.g. impregnated wood, oil-based caulks, green or partially vulcanized rubber gaskets or tapes), to surfaces in direct contact with food, and to surfaces that will be painted over.
