CrudeChem Technology MEA 62

MEA 62 is a hydrogen sulfide scavenger for flowline and bubble tower applications. MEA 62 will react rapidly with hydrogen sulfide to form stable, water-soluble products that can be injected down disposal wells. Unlike many conventional scavengers, MEA 62 is unaffected by the presence of carbon dioxide and continues to removes H2S efficiently. Typical field blends may be made by diluting 20-40% with fresh water.

Application Details
  • MEA 62 should preferably be injected continuously at a wellhead or separator to remove H2S from gas. The reaction of MEA 62 with H2S occurs in the water phase. Therefore, improvement in scavenging efficiency will occur in “wet” gas systems. As a working guideline, the minimum water content of wet gas is about 5 pounds per MMSCF.
  • Injection of MEA 62 through atomizers into gas lines can be helpful depending on available contact time. Longer flowlines and more contact time will improve the efficiency of scavenging. MEA 62 may also be used in bubble tower applications. Bubble tower applications are generally much more efficient than flowline injections due to better mass transfer and longer contact times.
  • The efficiency of MEA 62 in either flowlines or bubble towers will depend on factors such as contact time, mass transfer, pressure, temperature, concentration of scavenger, and water dilution. Each application is unique and will require fine tuning of optimum results. The spent solution is generally considered non-hazardous.

Hydrogen Sulfide Scavenger
In consideration of these facts, initial treating rates should be set at .04 to .20 gallons of MEA 62 per ppm H2S per MMSCF per day. For example, a system producing 10 MMSCF per day gas containing 20 ppm H2S should be treated continuously with 8 to 40 gallons of MEA 62 per day or 0.32 to 1.6 gallons per hour. Optimization of treating rates must be determined in the system.
