Mona™ AT-1200 is a concentrated, biodegradable liquid surfactant that delivers dramatic viscosity building properties to acid cleaning formulations. It offers rapid solubilisation with a wide range of viscosities possible for HCI, H2SO4, HNO3 and H3PO4/HCI mixtures. In addition, it offers corrosion inhibition and provides foaming and detergency enhancement to acid cleaners.
Mona™ AT-1200 is ideally suited for use in viscous acid cleaning formulations such as metal cleaners, rust removers, dairy and brewery cleaners, acid bowl cleaners and shower cubicle cleaners.

Viscosity Building
Mona™ AT-1200 effectively thickens HCI, H2SO4, HNO3 and H3PO4/HCI mixtures.
A wide range of viscosities can be achieved by varying the type of acid, the concentration of acid, or the concentration of Mona AT-1200, as illustrated for the case of HCI and H2SO4 in the following graphs.
Figure 1: Viscosity vs. concentration of HCI with 3.0% active Mona™ AT-1200
Figure 2: Viscosity vs. concentration of H2SO4 with 3.0% active Mona™ AT-1200
In figure 3, shown below, the broad range of viscosity obtainable in 10% hydrochloric acid using Mona™ AT-1200 is illustrated:

In figure 4, shown below, the broad range of viscosity obtainable in 5% citric acid and NaCI using Mona™ AT-1200 is illustrated (sodium chloride is required with organic acids in order to achieve thickening):

Foaming
Mona™ AT-1200 is an effective foaming agent when used with organic acids (glycolic and citric) and inorganic acid such as HCl as shown in the graph below, all samples gave a high level of stable foam:

Corrosion Inhibition
Mona™ AT-1200 effectively inhibits the corrosive attack by acids on metal. The following table shows the reduction in weight loss of various metals when Mona™ AT-1200 is incorporated into hydrochloric and sulphuric acid systems:
