Crodasoft™ TZ

Crodasoft TZ is the result of extensive laboratory formulation and testing and has been shown to improve the sensory feel of tissues, without affecting tissue color or odor. At the low application levels required there is minimal impact on facial and toilet tissue tensile strength. The cushioning effect of Crodasoft TZ can be seen in the simple illustration below (figure 1). 40 sheets from a market leading luxury brand toilet tissue roll, with and without Crodasoft TZ, were carefully placed in a pile for comparison.

The feel sensation of tissues is foremost in consumers’ minds and softness is a key factor in profitable tissue making. It is also a highly complex and subjective experience which is difficult to quantify. The perception of softness by panelists is therefore a powerful way of testing the effect of tissue coatings.

Panelists were asked to feel and assess a market leading 2ply toilet tissue and the same tissue coated with Crodasoft TZ in a forced preference panel test. Each panelist was asked to select which tissue they preferred for softness.

The results conclusively demonstrate that Crodasoft TZ improves the softness of tissue (figure 2). Significance was demonstrated at P>0.001 level of confidence.

Sensory evaluation was carried out to International Standard ISO 5495 “Sensory Analysis Methodology: Paired comparison test”.

Effective at low levels, Crodasoft TZ has been shown to have minimal impact on the tensile strength of both toilet and facial tissue.
Premium toilet and facial tissue, uncoated and Crodasoft TZ coated, was subjected to tensile strength testing (machine direction). The results demonstrate that there is insignificant change in the tensile properties of the tissue (figure 3).

Tensile strength testing was conducted in accordance with European Standard EN 12625-4:1999, with the exception of the length of the test piece, this being limited by perforations in the toilet tissue.

Crodasoft TZ has been developed specifically with ease of use in mind. It is ready-to-use and water soluble for easy Cleaning. It can be easily applied by all types of dry end coating application equipment at room temperature and is particularly suitable for spray application. Crodasoft TZ has been certified as “sprayable, as supplied”, using Weko rotor damping equipment.

The viscosity of Crodasoft TZ is 14 seconds by the Ford cup (#4) measurement method.
Typical application levels are 2 - 3 gm.

Crodasoft TZ is suitable for most types and grades of tissue. But because we realize base sheets vary considerably, in addition to technical support, Croda provides the facility to apply Crodasoft TZ to your tissue.

Crodasoft TZ is considered to be an acceptable cosmetic proprietary product. It is considered to be non-toxic on ingestion, non-sensitizing and essentially non-irritating to the skin.
Crodasoft TZ is considered to be inherently biodegradable and would not be expected to persist indefinitely in the environment.
