VARIPHOB® CC 4140 is especially recommended for the protection of the following alkaline mineral materials or as a primer for paints.
- Cement-based construction materials
- Concrete (non-load bearing manufactured concrete products)
- Reinforced concrete in bridge, road and building construction
- Alkaline mineral substrates
- Lime-sandstone
- Repairmortar
- Recommendation for Use
-
Impregnation:
-
VARIPHOB® CC 4140 is processed by flooding or saturated application by brush on alkaline surfaces. A double layer "wet-on-wet" application is absolutely recommended to avoid defects.
-
Soilings are to be removed prior to applying the product. The ground must be dry, solid and free from dust and grease.
- The efficiency and penetration depth of VARIPHOB® CC 4140 is depending on the moisture of the substrate.
- Water spots or individual moist spots on the concrete surface lead to an uneven impregnation. Water or rain may not get in contact with the emulsion until VARIPHOB® CC 4140 has been completely absorbed by the ground.
- Freshly treated surfaces must be protected from water impact.
- When used in combination with insulating materials, the stability of the insulating material to VARIPHOB® CC 4140 must be tested.
- A direct contact with bitumen must be avoided at any rate.
-
-
Admixture:
-
VARIPHOB® CC 4140 can also used for the mass hydrophobation of alkaline materials.
- We generally recommend adding 1.0 – 5.0 % VARIPHOB® CC 4140 based on the cement weight to the fresh mortar. The optimal dosage has to be determined in pre-trials.
- There can be differences in strength and shrinkage compared to a non-hydrophobic system.

Storage & Handling
- Shelf Life
- 12 months
- Storage Conditions
- In closed original containers at room temperature (approx. 23°C) the product will be stable for at least 12 months.
- Stir before use.
- Stability
- VARIPHOB® CC 4140 is sensitive to frost, after the impact of temperatures below the freezing point irreversible changes can occur.
- The containers must be protected from direct sun radiation and keep from temperatures higher than 30°C.
