For the Interior Installation of:
- Dimensionally stable vinyl (solid, pure, luxury) tile and planks, rubber tiles (12" x 12"), vinyl-backed carpet and homogeneous PVC flooring over concrete, APA-rated plywood, primed gypcrete or terrazzo.
- Product Notes
- Moisture levels must not exceed 5 lbs./1,000 sq.ft./24 hrs. (ASTM F1869) or 85% relative humidity (ASTM F2170).
- Always check with the flooring and cushion manufacturer for their allowable moisture limits.
- Do not exceed the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- The trowel notches referenced are those typically recommended for the type of flooring being installed.
- Surface conditions will ultimately determine trowel notch size and coverage.
- After installation, restrict foot traffic and moving of heavy objects for 24 to 48 hours.
- Preparation
- Ensure substrate, flooring material and adhesive are acclimated 48 hours prior to installation and installed at the same temperature and relative humidity (RH) expected during normal use (between 65 - 95 ºF, ≤65% RH).
- Refer to the flooring manufacturer’s specific recommendations.
- Ensure adequate ventilation during installation.
- Subfloors must be structurally sound, dry, smooth, flat and free of excess moisture/ alkali (≤9) and all substances that might interfere with bonding.
- Repair cracks, holes, high spots and irregularities. Use polymer-modified, cement-based patching compounds.
- Expansion/moving joints must not be filled/covered with flooring.
- Installation
Porous Substrates:
- Apply adhesive with the appropriate trowel.
- Roll adhesive with a short nap roller (pre-primed with adhesive if the type of flooring has a tendency to telegraph/show the adhesive ridges over time).
- Lay flooring into the adhesive while the adhesive is wet or immediately after it has developed some tack (semi-wet).
- To ensure proper coverage, periodically lift the flooring to check that the adhesive has 100% coverage on the backing of the material and on the substrate.
Semi-porous Substrates:
- Apply adhesive with a 1/16" x 1/32" x 1/32" U-notch trowel.
- Allow adhesive to become semi-tacky to the touch (adhesive is tacky when lightly touched - when touched harder, adhesive skin breaks and moist adhesive is exposed).
- Lay flooring into the adhesive after the adhesive has developed tack and within 2 hours after spreading.
- Note: Ensure tiles are carefully placed as they cannot be re-adjusted easily after placing.
- To ensure proper coverage, periodically lift the flooring to check that the adhesive has 100% coverage on the backing of the material and on the substrate.
- Roll flooring with the manufacturer’s recommended floor roller.
- Clean Up & Removal
- Wet Adhesive: Warm soapy water or Capitol CL800 Adhesive Cleaner.
- Dry adhesive: CL800 Adhesive Cleaner or mineral spirits sparingly with a clean, white, cotton cloth.
- Do not pour cleaner directly on the flooring.
