Co-founders albert and anna pavlik opened the company's doors for the very first time in 1937, and the legacy has only expanded since. The first production line, then located 20 miles east of cleveland in willoughby, oh, produced barium peroxide a precursor for the subsequent manufacturing of hydrogen peroxide. Decades later, in 1960, barium & chemicals relocated operations to steubenville, oh, after purchasing the steubenville pottery facility, a 180,000 square foot plant nestled at the edge of the ohio river. There, its ambitions continued to evolve, adding more than 80 high quality inorganic specialty chemical compounds to its repertoire, serving the ordnance, pyrotechnic, and automotive industries, to name a few.


The growth and success of the company is no surprise given not only its impeccable quality standards and its attention to each individual customer's needs, but also the dedicated ownership that has endured in the same family for generations. In 2005, eleanor r. Naylor, daughter of albert and anna, with her husband, douglas f. Naylor, sr.,took over the company and today, the family tradition continues as eleanor's own daughter, deborah venci, who serves as barium & chemicals’ president and the rest of the dedicated barium & chemicals staff work tirelessly to further the success of this local, women-owned, time-tested corporation."

Barium &amp; Chemicals Barium Nitrate finds applications in the vacuum tube industry. It is used to manufacture other Barium compounds and is used by the pyrotechnique industry for the production of "green fire" and green signal flares. Also used in primer mix for ordnance industry.

It is also used as an alkalizing agent in water softening, sulfate removal agent in water treatment and brine, boiler scale removal, sulfate-controlling agent in ceramics, purifying agent for caustic soda, steel carbonizing agent, glass, and elastomer vulcanization.

Barium &amp; Chemicals Barium Fluoride can be used in the ceramic industry as a flux, carbon brushes for electrical equipment, glass making, and manufacture of other fluorides, crystals for spectroscopy, electronics and dry-film lubricants.

Barium &amp; Chemicals Barium Metaphosphate is used in flame retardant and in phosphors applications.
