Proxel® LSR preservative is a dual-active, broad-spectrum biocide for the wet-state preservation of industrial, water-based products that prevents spoilage caused by bacteria, yeasts and fungi. It is an aqueous solution of 1,2-benzisothiazol(2H)-one and Sodium Pyrithione with a pale yellow appearance. The preservative is pH and temperature-stable and is easily incorporated into a wide range of industrial products. This novel formulation offers a powerful antimicrobial effect and benefits from the use of two complementary active ingredients, providing an enhanced antimicrobial efficacy. Proxel® LSR Preservative is also free from fomaldehyde, VOC and heavy metals.

Proxel® LSR Preservative is a highly effective blend of two biocidal actives, which in combination provide complementary modes of action, leading to a robust and broad range efficacy. This makes the Proxel® LSR Preservative ideal for providing highly effective preservation for a wide range of water based industrial applications. Application areas include:
- Polymer emulsions
- Paints and coatings
- Mineral slurries
- Adhesives
- Product Optimization
The Proxel® LSR Preservative should be added to the manufacturing process as early in the process as possible. Factors affecting the biocide stability, such as certain steps in polymer emulsion production e.g. initiation, should be considered when determining the correct stage of addition. The concentration of Proxel® LSR Preservative that would be required to effectively preserve your product depends on several factors. These include the susceptibility of the substrate to microbiological degradation, the extent to which microorganisms can access the substrate, the species involved, pH, temperature and the length of time preserva- tion is required.
A range of recommended dosages are listed in Table 2. However, it is highly recommended that a testing program be undertaken to determine the most efficacious and cost-effective dose for your specific application. Testing should consider but not be limited to chemical stability, plant hygiene conditions, substarate / product susceptibility and the microorganisms present.

Regulatory & Compliance
- Certifications & Compliance
- Total Quality
Lonza holds a number of ISO 9001 Quality Management registrations covering our product range. The scope of each registration is specific to the location or entity named on the Registration Certificate and our products are supplied to ISO 9001 Standards.
- Regulatory Information
In many countries all of the chemical components of a product must be listed on the relevant “inventory” of chemical substances before it can be supplied. However the listing on an inventory alone does not necessarily permit all uses of a product and it does not imply compliance with local or regional regulations for Biocidal products.
In many countries, the marketing or making available of end-use biocidal products are subject to additional legislation which often requires a specific product registration or authorisation. Please contact your Lonza representative for the current regulatory status of this product within the applications described herein.
