Product Features

Cartaspers® PSM New liquid is a water-based polyester dispersion, with the ability to modify the surface energy of non-polar substances. It has no affinity for hydrophilic material, such as cellulose fibres, but adsorbs strongly onto synthetic fibres, resinous substances, recycled adhesive and latex particles. A monomolecular layer of the adsorbed polymer, with its predominantly hydrophilic functional groups, increases the surface energy of the targeted material. Consequently, hydrophobic contraries are more easily dispersed in the water phase and there is much less tendency for them to agglomerate and form deposits.

The unique chemistry of the product, with its low foaming tendency and minimal effect on other papermaking additives, is far more desirable than conventional surfactants or hydrophilic polymers such as polyvinylalcohol, carboxymethylcellulose or hydroxyethylcellulose.

The nonionic nature of Cartaspers® PSM New liquid ensures compatibility with a wide variety of anionic and cationic additives commonly encountered. Hard water and the presence of multivalent cations do not affect the performance of the product. The mechanism of polymer adsorption is attributed to intermolecular forces between nonpolar structures, commonly referred to as London Dispersion Forces
