How to use Cartabond® TSI liquid
Color temperatures higher than 70°C and mixtures in the coating color with ammonia containing products should be avoided.
Cartabond® TSI liquid can be used in a broad range of pH: between 5 and 9.5.
Crosslinking takes place during drying. The reaction is achieved when the water is removed, whatever the temperature and drying time may be. The use of Cartabond® TSI liquid does not require any catalyst.
Typical dosages of Cartabond® TSI liquid are between 2 and 8 % of the water soluble binder in Size Press recipes (dry/dry) or for coating recipes between 0.2 and 0.8% of the pigment (dry/dry).Application Examples:
1. Coated Offset paper production
- Deinked base paper
- Film press application – coat weight: 10 g/m2
- Coating color composition (dry parts):
- CaCO3 60
- Clay 40
- SBR latex 12
- Starch 9
- Cartabond® TSI liquid 6% (dry/dry starch + latex)
Beneficial reductions of dusting and linting at the paper surface have been achieved. Printability of offset paper has been considerably improved.
2. Silicon release paper production
- Release paper 65 g/m2
- Size press application – coat weight: 2 g/m2 per face
- Coating color: Starch/PvOH (90/10)
- Cartabond® TSI liquid: 3% (dry/dry Starch + PvOH)
The wet surface strength has been considerably increased. This has brought beneficial effects in the silicon release paper processing.
3. Food packaging paper production
- Size press application – coat weight: 4.5 g/m2
- Coating color containing 2% CMC + anti-grease fluor derivative
- Cartabond® TSI liquid: 3% (dry/dry CMC)
Keeping the same surface strength level as previously obtained with a UF resin, it has been possible:
- To remove formaldehyde from the paper production
- To substantially cut the surface treatment costs.
