Afcona 4550

Modified polyacrylate polymer.

Calculation method for the required amount of active ingredient on pigment:

• TiO2 : 2 - 3%
• Other inorganic pigments : 2 - 4%
• Organic pigments : 20 - 40%
• Carbon blacks : 20 - 60%

AFCONA-4550 should be incorporated in the mill base before adding the pigments.

AFCONA-4550 is a polymeric dispersant for stabilizing inorganic and organic pigments in water-based systems. It has very good stability performance, through effective steric hindrance and electric repulsion, on all type of pigments.

This results in:

• Better gloss
• Color strength
• Flocculation stability
• Anti-flooding behavior.

AFCONA-4550 is pH-independent and has a wide compatibility in most commonly used in industrial coatings. AFCONA-4550 does not influence the water resistance. AFCONA-4550 is complete water-soluble and does not necessary has to be neutralized. However, neutralization will improve the viscosity reduction performance. AFCONA-4550 will lose the water dissolving power above 60°C. Therefore, in order to ensure high efficiency, keep milling temperature below 60°C. However, once the temperature is cooled down, the water dissolving power will come back. AFCONA-4550 is recommended for manufacturing of resin free pigment concentrates for industrial paints.

Note: AFCONA – 4550 will become slightly hazy at temperatures below 5° C. This will not influence the quality.

AFCONA-4550 should be stored in a cool dry place. When kept in an original unopened container, it will keep up to 3 years from the date of manufacture. The expiry date is indicated on the container.
