AFCONA-4009 should be incorporated in the mill base before adding the pigments.

Calculation method for the required amount of active ingredient of dispersant on pigment:

• TiO2 : 2 – 3%
• Other inorganic pigments : 2 – 5%
• Organic pigments : 20 – 40%
• Carbon blacks : 20 – 50%

AFCONA-4009 is a polymeric dispersant mainly for stabilizing inorganic and some organic pigments. The main advantage of AFCONA – 4009 is the very wide compatibility. It is compatible with long, medium and short oil alkyds, NC, polyurethanes, certain thermoplastic acrylics, epoxy and all the resins for baking paint. Therefore, AFCONA – 4009 is compatible with most of all solvent-based systems. Compared to other AFCONA PU grade dispersants the viscosity reduction property of AFCONA – 4009 is not too strong, this is due to the more polar structure. However, this is not necessary a disadvantages, because not all mill bases need good viscosity reduction.

The special properties and recommended systems of AFCONA – 4009 :

1. Due to its particularly good combination of price and performance, AFCONA – 4009 is a very attractive product to substitute conventional wetting and dispersing agents in all kind of coating systems
2. AFCONA – 4009 can be used as post adding additive to correct flooding and floating in all solvent-based paints. If used in mill bases as co-grinding dispersant, the anti-flooding and floating property is also good.
3. The pigment concentrate based on AFCONA – 4009 give very unique properties like:

• not easy dry up
• very wide compatibility
• economic

Note: AFCONA – 4009 will become slightly hazy at temperature 5°C and below, but this will not influent the quality.

AFCONA-4009 should be stored in a cool dry place. When kept in an original unopened container, it will keep up to 5 years from the date of manufacture. The expiry date is indicated on the container
