AFCONA – 1102 is designed for use as universal resin for the preparation of universal pigment concentratel. To formulate stable pigment concentrates with wide compatibility AFCONA – 1102 must be combined with any of high molecular weight dispersant from AFCONA 4000 series or with AFCONA – 5280. The stability and deflocculation ability of the pigment concentrates is highly depended on the dispersant selected. On the other hand, the compatibility of the pigment concentrates depends not only on the selected dispersant, but also the universal resin chosen in the formulation. AFCONA – 1102 is compatible with most of the resin systems like Polyurethane, alkyd melamine, acrylic melamine, polyester melamine (butylated and HMMM grade), acid curing etc. The known resin systems that are not really compatible are epoxy systems as well as air drying alkyd systems where white spirit, LAWS and aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents are used in large amounts.
The pigment concentrates that prepared through AFCONA – 1102 or AFCONA – 1101 have below different properties:- AFCONA – 1101 better in viscosity reduction.
- AFCONA – 1102 gives better compatibility, especially in thermoplastic resins and epoxy.
- AFCONA – 1102 is more economic than AFCONA – 1101.
