Processing

ELASTOSIL® E303 TRANSLUZENT can be applied by

  • Dipping
  • Spraying
  • Brushing
  • Coating

Thinner coatings can be obtained by addition of solvents (e.g. toluene, white spirit), thicker coatings can be realized by multiple step coating. ELASTOSIL® E303 TRANSLUZENT contains about 55% of solvent therefore suitable equipment has to be used and precaution measures due to the solvent vapors have to be taken. A volume shrinkage of slightly above 50% has to be considered. ELASTOSIL® E303 TRANSLUZENT is a one-part room temperature curing coating therefore the curing rate depends on temperature and on atmospheric humidity. The curing rate can be accelerated by heat. Uncured or partially cured silicone can be removed by help of organic solvents such as alipatic or aromatic hydrocarboncleaning should take place before the rubber is fully cured. Once completely cured, only mechanical removal supported by prior solvent swell is possible. Swelling can be accelerated by elevated temperature. In thin films, Wacker Silicone Remover S8 is suited as well. We recommend running preliminary tests to optimize conditions for the particular application.

Safety & Health

Safety Notes

ELASTOSIL® E303 TRANSLUZENT releases during cure a total of about 4 % acetic acid and 50 % white spirit on curing. These vapors should not be inhaled for long periods or in high concentrations. Hence good ventilation of the workplace is necessary.
