Quality Characteristics

Defects

The corn shall be practically free from defects. Cob, husk, silk, pulled kernels, ragged kernels, crushed kernels, loose skins, and harmless extraneous vegetable matter may not more than slightly affect the appearance or eating quality.

Cut

The corn shall be well cut so that the presence of ragged cut kernels, irregular cut kernels, torn kernels, and kernels with attached cob tissue do not more than slightly affect the appearance.

Character

The corn shall be tender and be in the milk or early cream stage of maturity.

Color

The corn shall possess a good color, which is bright and practically uniform. The corn shall be typical of tender corn and the corn shall be practically free from “off-variety” kernels.

Flavor

The corn shall possess a very good flavor and aroma typical of tender canned sweet corn.

Microbiology

All products are thermally treated and considered commercially sterile.
