AFCONA 3280 is a special modified polysiloxane that is soluble in aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, esters and ketones, but insoluble in water. It offers slip, defoaming, and improvement of surface characteristics without hurting intercoat adhesion. Additionally, it offers better hot water resistance than other polyether modified polysiloxanes.

Chemical Family: Polyether Polysiloxanes, Polysiloxane, Organomodified, Silicones

Labeling Claims: Not Listed In California Proposition 65

Compatible Polymers & Resins: Acrylics, Alkyds, Melamines & Melamine Formaldehydes (MF), Polyesters, Polyurethanes (PU), Unsaturated Polyester (UPE)

Features: Anti-Cratering , Defoaming, Enhanced Surface Smoothness, Floating Resistance, Good Leveling, Hot Water Resistance, Moderate Slip Performance, Recoatability

Solid Content: 86.0 - 86.0 %

Product Applications

AFCONA-3280 offers the following improvements to the general surface characteristics of the coating:

  1. improved leveling and surface smoothness
  2. moderate slip performance
  3. no intercoat adhesion problems, even without sanding between coats
  4. reduced formation of inner bubbles in PU coatings (this product acts as a defoamer and de-aerator)
  5. reduced formation of Bénard cells.

AFCONA – 3280 is recommended for the following coating systems:

  • heat-cured enamels based on alkyd-, acrylic - or polyester resins
  • acid curing and PU wood coatings, especially those applied by dipping or curtain coating, as well as those used on highly porous wood substrates
  • self-leveling epoxy flooring compounds
  • UV-curing inks and coatings
Incorporation
AFCONA-3280 may be added at any stage of the production process. However, this product’s defoaming properties require high shear force if it is added in the letdown stage. For easier incorporation, dilute to 10% in any solvent/s.
Addition and Dosage
AFCONA-3280 may be added at 0.05 - 0.50% based on total formulation. Under normal conditions, 0.05 - 0.2% based on total formulation is sufficient.
