- Surface Preparation
For Shop Priming New Steel, or Field Painting New Structures surfaces must be clean, dry and free from oil, grease, dirt, welding flux, mill scale, rust, oxides, corrosion products, loose paint, or any foreign matter detrimental to the adhesion of this primer. Abrasive blast all surfaces per SSPC-SP-6 “Commercial Blast Cleaning”. If abrasive blasting is not permitted removeall loose rust, corrosion products, paint and other foreign matter per SSPC-SP-11,”Power tool cleaning” using a Desco air operated tool with a “Roto Peen” flap assembly attached.
For Maintenance Painting
Remove oil and grease by solvent cleaning. Pressure wash to decontaminate all surfaces. Remove loose, cracked, brittle or non-adherent paints, spot clean rust spots by power tooling per SSPC-SP-11. Feather out exposed edges where remaining paint is sound.
Aluminum or Galvanized Surfaces
Age and degree of contamination and/or deterioration of surfaces will determine method of surface preparation. Brush blasting per SSPC-SP-7, or treating surfaces to be coated with Endcor 400 Wash Primer or with Endcor 450 Prep Wash.
Mixing
Redisperse any settled-out pigments by stirring with a paint paddle, followed by through mixing to a uniform consistency with an explosion proof power mixer.
Drying Time
Endcor 560C is ready to recoat in 6 - 8 hours.
Cleanup
Flush equipment, hoses, clean spray gun and spray tips after use with Dampney 100 thinner.
- Application
Apply by conventional or airless spray, brush or roller. Apply to a 2-3 mil dry film thickness (4-6 mils wet). If exceptionally rough surfaces are encountered, apply a second coat to a dry film thickness of 6 - 8 mils wet.
- Application Guidelines
Primer is formulated for application by brush, roller, airless or conventional spray. The following equipment or equivalent, may be used
- Brush : Use pure bristle brushes only. Do not over brush, use full even strokes.
- Roller : Use 1/4” to 5/8” nap rollers. Avoid excess rolling.
Note : Extra coats of primer may be required for uniform film thickness when applied via brush or roller.
Conventional Spray
Spray gun Binks 2001 Air hose 5/16" (I.D.) *Fluid hose 3/8" (I.D.) Air cap & Fluid nozzle 63Bx63PB Pot pressure 10-15lbs. Atomizing pressure 35-40lbs. *Smaller diameter hoses or hose lengths greater than 25 feet may make it necessary to increase pressures.
Airless Spray Equipment
Pump Graco Bulldog 30:1
Gun Graco 205-591, 208-663
Fluid tips* Graco 163-615, 162-619
Fluid hose 3/8” to 1/2’’ ID Air pressure to pump 100 psi Pump operating pressure 80-90psi * Use Reverse-A-Clean tips for easy clean out. Note: Pump gasket should be teflon.
Application Temperature
Do not apply primer if surface, material or air temperature is below 50°F (10°C) or if relative humidity is above 80%
Recommended Topcoat Systems
- Endcor 300 Series Vinyl Coatings
- Endcor 500 Series Alkyd Coatings
- Endcor 570 Series Silicone Alkyd Coatings
- Endcor 600 Series Chlorinated Rubber Coatings
- Endcor 700 Series Polyamide-cured Epoxy Coatings
Topcoating Procedures
Allow 6-8 hours before application of coatings, containing mild solvents (acrylic, alkyd, chlorinated rubber, oleo-resinous, etc.). Allow 16 hours minimum before application of coatings containing active solvents (epoxy, urethane, vinyl, etc.)

Safety & Health
- Precautionary Information
Warning ! Flammable liquid and vapor. Harmful if inhaled. May affect the brain or nervous system causing dizziness, headache or nausea. Causes, nose, throat and skin irritation.
Caution : Keep away from heat, sparks, arc and flame. Vapors may cause flash fire. Close container after each use. Do not breathe vapors or spray mist. Use only with adequate ventilation during mixing application and curing. Wear a vapor/ particulate respirator, such as NIOSH/MSHA No TC-23C, during and after application and until work areas are exhausted of vapors and mists. Follow respirator manufacturer’s directions for use. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing, Wash thoroughly after handling. Wear rubber gloves, chemical safety goggles and protective clothing. Use skin cream.
In unventilated areas or confined spaces require a constant-flow, air-line respirator, such as NIOSH/ MSHA No. TC-19C. Use explosion-proof lights and electrical equipment. Make certain all electrical equipment is grounded. Wear conductive and nonsparking shoes. Follow safety procedures described in OSHA regulations. Use only nonsparking tools and equipment. Wear conductive and nonsparking foot wear. Make certain all electrical equipment is grounded.
